The Limbic System is a complex set of brain structures located under the cerebrum. It lies on both sides of the thalamus. Some of the major parts of the Limbic system include the hippocampus, the olfactory bulbs, the amygdala, the midbrain areas, and the pons. Some of the functions that it supports are emotions, behaviors, motivations, long-term memory, and scent. Damage to the Limbic system can lead to problems such as memory loss and Alzheimer's.
